What Happened To The Google Drive App For Mac
Google announced in a blog post today that the Google Drive app for desktop will be shut down. The Verge reports: Support will be cut off on December 11th and the app will shut down completely on March 12th, 2018. It has to do with the fact that Google's Photo Backup app, the desktop uploader, is compatible with iPhoto, but not yet Photos for Mac. That's why that file is grayed out -- it's not mean to be selectable at this time. The Google Drive app is currently integrated with the Google Photos desktop uploader, so it might have escaped your notice if you're looking for a set-it-and-forget-it standalone backup solution.
